Objective: Students will gain proficiency with and learn to properly set-up, manage and operate various types of sporting or tactical shotguns in common civilian use.
Instructors: Police Sergeant Brian Fitzpatrick (Ret.) — Law enforcement shotgun instructor. We guarantee low student/instructor ratios (4-to-1) to insure safety, quality training and individual attention.
Topics Covered Include:
- Firearms Safety Rules — on and off the range
- Overview of various action types and fire-control systems
- California legal issues, safe and lawful storage and transportation
- Shotgun set-up, zeroing for slugs and ballistics (optical and iron sighting systems)
- Sling installation, adjustment and techniques
- Fundamentals of shotgun marksmanship
- Shotgun nomenclature, cycles of operation and manipulation
- Loading and unloading, making safe, cleaning and maintenance
- Selection and application of various ammunition types
- Buckshot zone patterning
- Ready conditions for home defense deployment
- Shooting positions
Prerequisite Training: None
Required Equipment: Any sporting or defensive shotgun, two point adjustable sling, personal eye & ear protection, lunch/snacks/drinks
Ammunition: 60 rounds of 00 or #4 buckshot, 25 rounds of bird shot or small game loads, 20 rifled slugs
Tuition: $295.00. “A Place to Shoot” also charges a $17.00 daily fee per shooter at check-in station (cash or check only).
