Objective:  To educate and familiarize law-abiding gun owners with California’s existing and proposed firearms laws, arguably the most confusing and complicated gun laws in the nation.

Course Overview:  The law firm of Michel & Associates, P.C. is working with MV Tactical & Firearms Training, Inc. to present the “Gun Law for Gun Owners,” seminar.  This class will combine the expertise of attorney Matt Cubeiro (criminal defense and firearms regulation law attorney) and Police Sergeant Brian Fitzpatrick (Ret.). These combined teaching perspectives will create a unique learning experience for attendees. Admission for this one-of-a-kind class is $135.00.  Attendees will receive a copy of C.D. Michel’s book, California Gun Laws: A Guide to State and Federal Firearm Regulations 8th Edition, a $29.00 value.

For attorneys attending the class: CLE credit will be available for the firearm law portion, which makes up the first four hours, taught by Mr. Cubeiro. An additional fee of $100 dollars (for a total cost of $235.00) will be required for attorneys who want to receive four hours of CLE credit. Attorneys are not required to attend the rest of the course after the CLE portion to obtain the full four hours of CLE credit, although they are welcome to attend the entire day’s class.   • Current and pending state and federal firearm laws—Many new bills in 2021
  • Discussion of the practical applications of California’s confusing firearm laws
  • How—as lawful gun owners—to react and behave when questioned by police
  • Analysis of real life encounters with the police
  • Laws governing legal uses of force and self-defense scenarios

Instructors: Attorney Matthew Cubeiro—practicing firearms law and criminal defense for the law firm of Michel & Associates, P.C., in Long Beach—Mr. Cubeiro’s primary practice areas include firearm regulatory compliance and litigation. He assists with local ordinance issues, legislative analysis, civil rights advocacy, and general civil litigation. One of Mr. Cubeiro’s primary responsibilities is tracking all ongoing firearm related litigation in the United States at both Federal and State Court levels, including over 300 ongoing cases nationwide. He serves as the attorney responsible for answering any firearm related questions California residents may have in navigating the complex California firearm regulatory environment.

 

Sgt. Brian Fitzpatrick (Ret.)—honorably retired police sergeant with thirty-four years as a member of a local Los Angeles County law enforcement agency—Sgt. Fitzpatrick holds instructor level certifications from the NRA LE Division and California POST.  He has participated in and investigated all levels of uses-of-force, and has consequently been involved in related litigation. Owner/Training Director of MV Tactical & Firearms Training, Inc., offering training in various defensive firearms and tactical disciplines.
