Objective: This intensive sixteen-hour course will enhance students’ familiarity, reliability, operating proficiency and shooting skill with 1911 platform pistols. First introduced over a century ago, this ingenious John Browning design remains extremely popular today—in modern variant form—due to its outstanding ergonomics, ease of handling, trigger control, accuracy and overall shootability. The 1911 does, however, require a more sophisticated operator and greater attention to detail to insure dependable operation. This training is suitable for all 1911 owners, those considering buying one, those wanting to deploy a 1911 pistol for home or personal defense, and law enforcement officers transitioning to the 1911 as a duty weapon.

Topics Covered Include:

  • The Cardinal Rules of Firearms Safety—their application on and off the range
  • A brief history of the 1911 platform pistol and evolution to its modern variants
  • Selecting the right 1911 pistol for you
  • Field stripping, care, cleaning, inspection, trouble-shooting and maintenance
  • Unique 1911 control features and safety mechanisms
