Objective: Successful completion of this sixteen-hour course will fulfill the Ventura County Sheriff Department’s training requirements for concealed carry permit applicants. Graduates will receive a certifying document, verifying they have met all minimum standards.
Instructors: Active-duty/retired law enforcement officers/trainers with extensive teaching experience in civilian and L.E. communities. We guarantee low student/instructor ratios (four-to-one maximum) to enhance safety, quality of instruction and individual attention.
Topics Covered Include:
- Firearms safety rules—on and off the range
- Safe and lawful storage and transportation of firearms
- CCW permit holder responsibility, accountability, civil liability and decision making
- Exceptions, restrictions and exclusionary zones
- Use-of-force law, justifiable use of lethal force (VCSD Written Exam)
- Handgun choice, carry methods and holster selection
- Law enforcement contacts and post deployment actions
- Fundamentals of marksmanship—Review
- Draw/presentation/safely re-holster—dry-fire, live-fire, concealed, varying positions
- Reloading—combat reload and tactical magazine exchange
- Malfunction drills—failures to feed, fire, extract, and eject
- Dry-fire and live-fire practice—emphasis on accuracy and recoil control
- Engaging targets from varying distances and multiple targets
- Tactical decision making—shoot/don’t shoot scenarios, other tactical options
- Qualification—minimum standards testing with all firearms listed on permit
Tuition & Registration: $500.00.
Required Prerequisite Training: Basic Defensive Pistol or equivalent
