33951 San Francisquito Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91390
Objective: To provide law enforcement officers and committed armed civilian students with the tactical mindset, knowledge and skills necessary to survive an active shooter/killer incident and to help others to survive.

The time to prepare is now if you and your family spend time in any public venues.
Instructors: Sergeant Brian Fitzpatrick (Ret.), CA P.O.S.T. Certified Active Shooter Response Instructor. During his thirty-four-year law enforcement career, Brian responded to several in-progress active shooter incidents and twice received his department’s Medal of Valor. Sgt. Fitzpatrick wrote and instructed his agency’s Active Shooter Response protocol.

Objective: To introduce interested law-abiding civilians to the basic knowledge and skills that law enforcement personnel employ to clear rooms and search structures. Useful for home defense, however, armed clearing of your residence is always a last resort option after sheltering in place in designated rally point/strong room & dialing 9-1-1. Discussion and practical scenarios will include escape and evasion techniques, which unarmed or armed citizens can use to survive an encounter inside of a building, involving a strategic level terror attack or domestic active shooter(s). Students will learn safety protocols designed to prevent becoming an inadvertent casualty resulting from responding police officers misidentifying them as suspects or misinterpreting their actions as consistent with criminal activity. Utilizing inert, plastic training replica firearms, students will learn safe gun handling skills relative to movement through, and armed engagements within various types of buildings.
Instructor: Police Sergeant Brian Fitzpatrick (Ret.) — California P.O.S.T. certified Active Shooter Response instructor and K-9 handler/supervisor — wrote his agency’s standardized building search/room clearing protocol and subsequently trained department personnel in these techniques. Guaranteed low student/instructor ratios for safety, quality & individual attention.
Topics Covered Include:
- Firearms Safety Rules—applicable to any environment
- Standardized protocols & tactical “rules” for clearing buildings (also exceptions to rules)
- L.E. number system to communicate locations—exterior walls, windows, doors & floors
- Use of observable architectural and terrain features to “read” a building/room
- Navigation in unfamiliar buildings. Floorplan variations. Evacuation protocol.
- Movement through a tactical environment—solo and pairs, blocking techniques.
- Approaching, clearing or moving past doorways, hallway intersections & stairwells.
- Clearing unfamiliar rooms in varying lighting conditions (other low light considerations)
Required Equipment: Flashlight & extra batteries, lunch & drinks, note taking materials
Tuition: $295.00.

LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER HANDGUN TUNE-UP
0900 to 1700 Hours
“A Place to Shoot”
33951 San Francisquito Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91390
Directions: www.aplacetoshoot.net
Objective: An officer’s survival may come down to handgun familiarity, manipulation skill, and overall effectiveness. Shooting skills are highly perishable! This is especially true for law enforcement professionals; whose job requires them to maintain a higher level of proficiency than recreational shooters. Police officers are busy people. Life and work frequently get in the way of practice and training with their duty pistol, the basic tool of their trade, upon which their lives might depend. Compounding the problem, many agencies follow an administrative policy of training to a minimum performance standard (training everyone to the level of the least competent officer). Officers who rarely shoot outside of agency qualification (Qualification is not training!) are placing themselves at great risk. Recognizing that “when the time to perform has arrived the time to prepare has past,” this will rapidly improve your handgun proficiency and establish a culture of regular training.
Topics Covered Include:
- Firearms Safety, handgun marksmanship and manipulation, holster proficiency
- Developing your survival mindset
- One handed shooting (strong and support side)
- Retention and contact distance shooting
- Pushing beyond your maximum effective pistol range
- Tactical decision making — shoot/no shoot scenarios
- Turns to contact & off-line movement
- Linear movement—shooting/hitting threats while moving through a suspect’s cone-of-fire
- Cover/concealment/non-traditional shooting positions, decreasing exposure time in the kill zone
- Proper reloading (speed/combat and tactical magazine exchange)
- Immediate action/malfunction procedures (failures to feed, fire, extract and eject)
Required Equipment and Ammunition: 400 rounds, duty handgun/six magazines, back-up pistol/holster if applicable, duty gun belt and/or concealment OWB holster/mag pouch rig (for duty pistol), tactical flashlight with end-cap switch, personal eye/ear protection
Tuition: $295.00.

Objective: To enhance law enforcement officers’ ability to proficiently operate their duty shoulder weapon in high risk environments. This course will emphasize utilization of the patrol rifle or duty shotgun in conjunction with the officer’s sidearm in a two-gun package, to maximize defensive use-of-force options over a broad range of possible tactical scenarios. Students will improve their confidence, handling ability and accuracy, learning combat-proven shooting and manipulation techniques. Officers who rarely shoot long-guns outside of agency qualification (Qualification is not training!) will rapidly improve their patrol rifle/handgun or shotgun/handgun proficiency and will establish a culture of regular training.

- Tactical decision making—shoot/no shoot scenarios
- Supporting fire/communication with partner
Required Equipment and Ammunition: A zeroed and well lubricated patrol rifle with sling and four magazines, or a police shotgun with sling, a duty handgun/six magazines, 400 rounds rifle/200 rounds pistol (for shotgun: 100 rounds buckshot, fifty rounds slugs, and 300 rounds pistol), duty gun belt and/or concealment OWB (Outside the Waist Band) holster, mag pouch rig (for duty pistol), tactical flashlight with end-cap switch, personal eye/ear protection
